About Us
AniMeals is a program that was developed in a southern California county in 1984. A Meals on Wheels program discovered that many of their clients were using portions of their meal delivery to feed their pets.
In Hunterdon County, New Jersey, it is recognized that despite the affluence attributed to the county, there are households in need of financial assistance and sometimes without adequate transportation. A needs assessment was initiated by contacting the Department of Human Services, Division of Social Services; the Community Services Council; and Hunterdon Helpline 2-1-1. The results of the survey indicated that many people receiving social service benefits, with mental health and housing challenges, and low-income persons would definitely benefit from the service.
The New Jersey AniMeals program began delivering food in September of 2007. In less than six (6) months the program was serving an average of 60 pets per month. Bulk delivery is done on a monthly basis. There is no charge for program participation.
New Jersey AniMeals is entirely run by volunteer effort and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and a subsidiary group of Coalition for Animals.
